speedo drive

hi, have changed the transmission on my swing arm shovel fron a worn out cowpie to a ratchet top.

the speedo drive gear holder wont fit? is this normal ? cheers jib

The drive would be the same 68up. There are 2 or 3 drive ratio changes in the earlier models. Perhaps the drive gear on the countershaft cluster is pre 68, not allowing your drive gear to mesh.

problem is the diameter of the driven shaft support is larger than the hole in the case! not by much but enougth to stop it going into the case.

Are there any burrs or dings on the edge of the hole in the case? If not, is the difference close enough to just polish down the speedo gear housing to fit?

Have you looked down the hole to see if there is indeed a mating gear in there? If it came out of an FX or any other front wheel drive speedo model it probably isn't there!
