fxe oil tank mounting

hi, went to replace the broken 'lord'mountings on the oil tank and realised there was over a third of an inch gap side to sideplay,when all the tank mount nuts are undone.

question is that 'normal'? its no wonder two of the mountings were broken.

i bought this bike off a restorer [read ' unskilled meddler'] three years ago and am still finding crap ,like the made in tiawan sticker on the back of the jiffy stand bracket ,that lost its chrome two and a half years ago

There was a lot of this kind of misalignment going on in the 70's right from the factory. You just have to play around with it and do your best. Works better if this is all done before paint.
