You can still order the solo saddle from the HD dealer. No one seems to make them better.


The seat-T is from V-Twin. The throat is too fat to allow the seat spring to seat. It takes about 20 or thirty grind and fit sessions, but you can make it fit and work like it should. The holes in the spring steel plate need hogging out to match the seat studs.

I've used a Foredom cable grinder a lot in kit building.

An 1/8" diamond-dust cylinder burr expanded the slot holes in the T. You can find burrs in an assorted set cheap from Harbor Freight.

The only bad thing about them is the nylon (?) webbing that replaced the leather a few years ago.

Bad how? The nylon web strip is a replacement for leather that rots. That's where my Knuckles saddle bit the dust. Leather strip tore, but I was able to lace the rear section of the seat with a rawhide strip like a football.
It's too bad the re-pop seat have strange shapes at the saddle horn. The foam pad H-D designs is a key element to the finished shape. The leather is the best.

i have both a new and old oem saddle.

i suppose i should keep my old one if i ever want to have my bike judged.

Interesting. Personally, I only care about riding them, not about anyone judging them in a contest. Sad are the repop seats that look weird in the stuffing department, which has made for some strange looking tractor-style seats. Dollar for look, go with Harley-Davidson, if you're having to spend that much money on something anyway, imo.
