my cousin acquired a pan frame, he thinks. there is a casting # on the rear strut where the shock would mount to 47645-65y and what looks like an 87 on left side of neck. what year would this be? and what other #'s or marks will help identify? thanks for the help.
aloha, jd
There are lot of ways to identify it. Posting a photo here would help a lot. On the top motor mount, usually on the right hand side will be a letter and a number. Somrthing like F9. This the code for the month and year the frame was made. A=Jan, B=Feb, C-Mar ETC, Except that the letter i was not used. The number is the year. 1= 61 or 71 or 81. The numbers were the same for frames built 10 years apart so you have to look at other things. What type of coil/oiltank mount is on the seat post tube?
This will be a electric start frame (1965 and up) with those numbers. If the right side of the top engine mount does not have a number followed by a letter....(ground off)...some other identifying clues are:
Does it have a keyed lock in the neck or does it have a hole on the lower right gusset of the neck to drop a padlock into?
What is the last number on the front engine mount 48E-621 then round Hallmark then ? number.
