Just bought a set of S&S generator cases (pre-65 style) . I know my flywheels from my 53 motor will not fit and will need a sproket shaft for a timken main bearing. However, does anyone know if I could use my 53 pinion shaft and gear as long as I make sure the bushing in the cam cover is compatible?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The diameter of your pinion shaft at the bearing surface is nominally 1". The '58 and later case race is used with a 1.250 diameter pinion shaft. Short answer: you need a later shaft and associated gears also.
