Removing VL fork lock

I would like to remove the fork lock on my VL frame.
I have a replica key made by another VL owner, but the lock doesn'y turn.

I have read there is a key number stamped somewhere on the frame and that a Briggs and Stratton dealer
can cut a blank from this info. I can't seem to find any such number.

Is there any other way to pull the cylinder without destroying everything ?

Take a powerful magnifying glass and look on the frame area above the lock. When you find the pin in the frame that holds the lock in, mark it. Then take the frame to the best welder you can find and have him weld a ball on top of that little bitty pin so you can pull it out.

If you have the new lock you can see the angle the hole is drilled at (stick a small drill bit into this hole so you can see the angle) Take a piece of sandpaper to the outer circumference to enhance the pin location, (I think it,s the top right) Hold the new lock in position in front of the old one with the drill bit sticking out to guide the angle of your drill, If you're lucky you can drill it out but the trees must be removed to get clear access. Or you could do the same thing in a new location missing the old pin. Is the key number right on the lock?

Go to a GOOD locksmith. He should be able to make you a key that works. Or go to a shop with alot of old keys and try your luck. Its worked for me a coupla times

On the other hand I have had correct keys and the lock is frozen. Time to fill it with Kroil and let it soak.

I have "A" key made by another forum member, so probably a wrong key. I have been soaking the lock and also pushing on the lock pin which doesn't seem to budge. Thanks for all the tips, I'll post how I made out.

The pin does not push out. It pulls out. Take the frame to a good welder and have him weld a lil blob on the end of the pin so you can grab it with visegrips and pull it out.

My mistake, I have been pushing on the lock rod (larger diameter rod that hits the fork and is activated by the lock) and there"s not much movement. I suspect I have the wrong key and a frozen lock rod.
