VL TRANSMISSION

:?: Could somebody tell me,do have to heat top gear on clutch hub to remove stub shaft,to allow replacement of brass gearbox seal.I have tried this in the press but was unsuccessful,also with 2 leegged puller but did not budge,any info apprieated. cheers ROOSTER.
I HAVE AT PRESENT A 1935 VLD AND ALSO A 1941 WLA AND A VELOCETTE 350 KSS,THE VLD IS CURRENTLY UNDER RESTORATION.MY NORMAL MODE OF TRANSPORT IA A 2005 BMW R1150RS WHICH IS A GREAT MOTORCYLE IN ITS OWN RIGHT.HOPE I CAN BRING SOME USEFULL INFO TO TOPICS.

Yes, getting that inner bearing race off the main drive gear can be tough. I have found a couple of hardened steel rollers, in fact carefully chosen screwdriver shanks, can be clamped up in a vice so they bear on the bushing. Some heat and tightening the vice often starts the bushing so you can then get a puller under it. Good luck.
