Generator gear

A few days ago I had my 32e generator go out on my 48U. Had a spare on the shelf with the knucklehead gear ( non-slinger) since I was rushed, I just slapped it on without changinging the gear. Have since run about 200 miles without a problem. I don't have any oil blowing out the breather and everything seems fine. Whats the big deal if I just leave it like this? Is the slinger gear all that important on the side valve motor?

Brad,
I don't any generator or gear at all on Frankenstein, and haven't had any problems for years. I suppose there should be more mist passing through, but I haven't noticed it.
Good luck.
