Yes ...It's entirely likely I'll make plenty of mistakes...You'll get some of that in life..
Never the less...I'm going to build it even through the stupid mistakes....
Beyond that....The lifter guides I have...Which I assumed are early K model are pretty small compared to the UL three piece valve covers....
It's a no go situation...
I have a set of UL lifters/tappets and a set of 45 lifters/tappets and yet another set of iron head lifters/tappets...All of them fit nicely into the lifter blocks I have...
The iron head ones seem to be the lightest but are also the most damaged....
I want to use the large valve covers so I guess I have to find a set of 45 lifter blocks to check em for fit...Seems a waste but I'll do it if I have to....
Panics book,pg. 8 say's.."If you have the larger 1930-38 VL/UL covers you can use super-duty springs (crane, crower, ect) for this one you will also need some of the UL spring stack parts. The bigger valve covers screw right on to your tappet blocks, and are very attractive, but will require clearence grinding on your fins and cylinder base flanges."
OK..Great...So I must then have some other type of SV engine lifter blocks because the valve covers dwarf the blocks....
Looking at a set of SUPPOSED 45 valve covers next to the UL types I have the difference is very apparent...
The only choices I seem to come to is buy all the related parts and make the comparison and then resell everything I can't use or ask seemingly stupid questons of those more experienced than I...Admittedly nearly everyone on the planet...
So....That said.....
Anyone ever put big valve covers on the lowly 45..??...
Beyond that:...
Dr D.
The project is of course to put this whole shooting match togather with the KH cylinders and standard K heads as we have discussed and the question is very interesting....
To me...This is as much an artistic work as it is an insane engine building project and a whole lotta fun...Thanks for the help...Every time you throw in your two cents worth it seems more like fifty dollars to me....
Panic...
Seems I'm gettin fixated on those 897 flywheels your selling....
Dr. D used regular WL pistons on Frankie and ended up with a very high compression rate...
Which piston would you recommend for this, for lack of a better word, project...All things considered...???....
Aska lotta questions for someone from Ore-e-gon now don't I....
The eternal pain in the Azzz
