Cylinder ID/date help please!

Hi everyone,

I am curious about the date code (?) on this cylinder from one of the projects:







It has 26-5 cast into the base flange - I was wondering if this is a date code (1945?) or just a batch number?
Are big twin flathead cylinders dated in this way other than the switch from 13 to 11 fins?

I apologize in advance - my Palmer's is in transit...

I am probably wrong.....and I don't have Palmers book here at home.........I left it at work.

Somewhere there will be a letter representing the month. Might be around the corner of the base. 26 is date and 5 is 1945.

Thanks guys! I'll see if I can find a letter there also.

I take it the cylinders were matched by roughly similar dates, such as same year etc? I have seen this to be the case on some of the K models I have looked closely at.
