39ULH

I'm assembling a 39ULH motor from a basket case and it has the original blind hole races in the cases. I see part #'s 24690-40 and 24779-40, case race washers were used in 40 and later behind the rollers and cages, was there anything used in the 37-39 motors or was this built into the blind race? Also, anyone know the thickness of #24781-36, the spacer between the sprocket side case rollers? Thanks

the factory reccomended thing to do is cut those races out and install std later races if i remember correctly
i have the replacements in stock

I have a 39 UL myself. The engine is the shop getting the later (1940 +) racers. I don't beleive the factory "recommended" anything along these lines, but a good shop hould be able to do it for you.

seems i remember a tsb somewhere about the subject
maybe in one of the shop dopes
anyway steve if i was in you position i'd tell the customer the best way to do it is to go with the newer races
but its your gig
second thing i would do in this case is dry assemble it with what you think goes in there if it bolts together and end play is anywhere close you set
if you got too many parts in there you'll know it quick
i take it that it came to you in boxes or you'd know what you pulled out of it and in what order
i simple trial and error hours work at the most would tell you exactly whats going on
or give carl olsen a call and ask him i'm sure he knows
its been too many yrs and too many other motors since i had a early ul apart

Yes,
That's what I ended up doing is putting the bearing cages in the races and using a little deductive reasoning to figure it all out. Thanks,
