The V111 touring engine is designed for torque more than top end horsepower. The short 4-1/8 stroke is equal to the large 4-1/8 inch bore, which minimizes vibration. The relatively low lift S&S 585 cam and the single coil Sidewinder valve springs minimize valve train noise. A smooth, quiet, torquey engine is ideal for touring applications where vibration and noise can get old on a long ride, and a loaded bagger pulling a trailer can overtax a stock engine.

Intelligent Spark Technology (IST®) ignition system:

  • Knock sensing ignition control prolongs engine life by automatically adjusting timing to eliminate knock by learning and storing ignition requirements of the engine
  • Guardian feature ensures proper engine break-in and protects engine with a 3 step break-in rev-limiter for first 24-hours of operation
  • Logs engine data, diagnostic test codes and history items, which can be viewed via a PC when equipped with diagnostic cable and software part #55-5075

I recently purchased an s&s 111 with the ist ignition for my 1990 fxrt i have about 1500 miles on it now,besides the 6 speed tranny that was the best upgrade i have ever done to that motorcycle it runs great and puts that 80inch harley motor to shame.

I've got 2000 miles on the new engine - installed in my 1998 Road King; also installed S&S headers & mufflers. I could not be more pleased. Starts easily and runs exceptionally strong. I am finally able to make full use of my already installed Baker 6-speed.

Review:
This is a great engine when it is jetted right. It also gets 40mpg on the interstate with a 6 speed. No way would I go back, its great.

Review:
Initial: had to replace the litters before leaving the shop. MAP sensor had to be replaced. Had to clearance the case to fit the oil filter. Took a year to get all that done to run properly, bad weather limited riding for half that.

Results: 108 HP @ 5700 rpm, 121 TQ @ 3900 rpm with dual Rineharts. After solving the initial issues it runs like a clock and is very powerful. Could leave some bigger blocks in the dust.

Review:
Great motor and the IST ignition is the way to go. Only issues encountered was to modify a set of Rheinhasts and a Fat Cat to clear the cam chest
